Claim to Fame: Georgia has one of the most famous mascots in college football Uga, along with being one of the most consistent programs of all time.
Why I have them in my Collection: Much like their cocktail party dates Florida, Georgia is a program that always has a say on who comes out of the SEC, and national title implications. Up until recently, Georgia seemed to be cursed when it came to trying to capture another national title, something they had not done since 1980.
Relief finally came in 2022 and 2023 when the Bulldogs won back-to-back national titles. With the 12-team playoff, Georgia not only expects to be one of the final teams, but they will also be thinking they should be favorites year in and year out. Texas and Oklahoma coming to the SEC provides stiffer competition, but Bulldog faithful won’t be phased by this.
Georgia also is home to one of the most famous Heisman Trophy winners of all time, Herschel Walker. I did not have the pleasure of watching him, but you can see from highlights he was an absolute beast for the Bulldogs. In fact, Georgia has a knack for churning out excellent running backs, no matter who is coaching it seems. Being located in a recruiting hotbed also helps, I am sure.
Georgia is an incredibly passionate and talented football program with a rich history of winning and winning national championships. Their fans, well you either love them or hate them. I personally have never been barked at. Either way, they are a must mention when talking about college football history.
